product description

Product Description of Dimethyl disulfide CAS#624-92-0

Dimethyl disulfide (CAS 624-92-0) is industrial-grade chemical with purity ≥99%. It is a flammable yellow liquid with a distinctive sulfur odor.
It has a melting point of -84.7°C, boiling point of 109.6°C, freezing point of 16°C, and relative density of 1.062 at 20°C. Its vapor pressure is 3.0×10⁶ mPa at 20°C, with a log Kow of 1.91 and a calculated Henry’s law constant.

At 20°C, its water solubility is 2.7 g/L, and it is fully miscible with most organic solvents at 15–25°C. It stays stable up to 300°C but is incompatible with oxidants.

Product Application of Dimethyl disulfide CAS#624-92-0

Dimethyl disulfide (CAS 624-92-0) is a multifunctional intermediate and food additive, commonly used as flavoring for onion, garlic, cheese, meat, soup and fruit flavors.
It acts as a sulfiding agent for oil refining catalysts and can replace 2-methylfuran-acrolein in food production. It is also used to synthesize 4-(methylthio)phenol, and serves as a safer substitute for methyl mercaptan in jet fuel additives.
Furthermore, it is applied as artificial flavoring, corrosion inhibitor, and agricultural soil fumigant for pest and crop protection.
