Product Description of Dicyandiamide CAS#461-58-5
Dicyandiamide (DICY/DCD) is a cyanamide dimer and guanidine cyano derivative, appearing as a white crystalline powder. It dissolves in water, alcohol, ethylene glycol and DMF, but is nearly insoluble in ether and benzene. It is non-flammable and stable in dry state.
As one of the earliest latent thermal curing agents, DICY remains solid and insoluble in epoxy resin at room temperature, dispersing as fine particles. It dissolves upon heating and cures rapidly near its melting point.
Its aqueous solution decomposes slowly above 80 °C and releases amonia. When heated to melting point, DICY melts with strong exotherm, forming melamine, cyanuric acid and other by-products.
